2018 Louis Roederer Champagne Vintage Brut Rosé 375ml

The 2018 Louis Roederer Champagne Vintage Brut Rosé is a beautifully timed new release and is especially compelling in this warmer year, which suits the house’s vinous rosé style exceptionally well. Sourced from 35 sites in what Roederer calls the “La Rivière” vineyards, it blends Pinot Noir from the warmer Cumières terroirs with Chardonnay from cooler, limestone-driven Chouilly. True to Roederer’s signature infusion method, a portion of Chardonnay juice is added to the Pinot Noir maceration, allowing them to ferment together and bringing finesse with true Pinot phenolic depth. A share of the base wines sees oak, and only partial malolactic is allowed to keep richness in check, giving the wine both textural depth and excellent freshness. The result is a serious, beautifully composed rosé Champagne with ripe red fruit, citrus, chalky lift, and a mouthwatering, structured finish. This is incredibly composed and fresh for the vintage, with impressive restraint, and Roederer seemed to capture the very best of the vintage. As with all of the Roederer roses, they are great off release but sneaky in the cellar, putting on a bit of weight with time, which is why this is one of the best buys for vintage rose Champagne year after year. We have had a lot of requests for the smaller 375ml format, and it is an especially attractive buy for this size, not to be missed!

Jeb Dunnuck 95 points! "The 2018 Champagne Vintage Brut Rosé is based largely on Pinot Noir from Cumières, with additional Pinot Noir from Mareuil sur Aÿ that brings more intensity and drive to balance the upfront fruit of Cumières. Composed of 60 percent Pinot Noir, it offers a chalky, lightly saline profile with notes of apricot, fresh strawberry, and blood orange. Medium-bodied, it has more structure than expected in the vintage and finishes clean and mineral.
